Keyword Research Power
Keywrod research is one of the most powerful things you can do to get great results online and add value to your website content but there is a big problem with keyword research and that’s because it is an art and a science and very few of us are both of these things…what do I mean?
Keyword research for many can be a bit of a drag if you dont know what you’re doing, the problem is keyword research is complex and is far more than just choosing some words that sound right for your business or niche and if you want to get some results online you must know the important factors about keyword research and most importantly how to do keyword research properly.
But first for those new to the internet here is my answer the question “what is keyword research”?…
Keyword research is essentailly a stratergy used to find and research the actual keywords that people are using or typing in the search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo to find what they are looking for. By researching these keyword terms from an SEO (search engine optimisation) perspective an SEO consultant or search engine optimisation experts can determin the following important factors that can make a big difference to your online presence…
When looking at keyword research you need to find the right balance between things like:
Relavance – How relevant the keyword is to the website it is promoting.
Competition – How many competing web pages are there also trying to get to the front page of the search engines for the same keyword term.
Traffic – How many people are searching for the keywords your researching.
Location – Where are the searches comming from.
And you can also include some advanced methords like:
Cost Per Click – How much other businesses are paying for ads on the search engines, this can tell you if there is money to be made from buying customers, this is also called commercial intent.
Keyword Spying – Finding out what keywords your competition are using to get the results that they are getting.

Doing Keyword Research?
One might wonder how do I do this research, get the information and then what do I do with all that information and that’s a great question…
Getting the above information is actually not that hard, mostly knowing what to do with it is the were the real power is. Firstly there a lots of different ways to get the information and there are plenty of keyword research tools on the market that make a lot of claims about what they can do but after using many of these I always come back to Google keyword tools, these tools offer the best way to do your keyword research by getting the information straight from the biggest search engine and accessing their free keyword tool is also a bonus.
Google keyword research enables you to get all of the information above (except keyword spying) and will allow you to do your keyword research analysis and improve your search marketing if you know what your doing, but remember to be patient and spend a lot of time using my formular below because keyword reseach is probably the most important part of what you do online and many people who ignore this process later find themselves wondering why things arent working out.
My formular for keyword research in order of importantce (although they are all important):
Keyword Relevance – This is my most important factor over competition, my reason is that if a person searches for a keyword, they know what they are looking for, if then they get to your website and it’s not relevant to them, the searcher hits the back button straight away and it’s all over!
Competition – This is my 2nd most important factor, high competition is an uphill battle at best, if you can, try to stay away from it, there is no point in getting into an uphill battle unless your already near the top of the search engines…I like to aim for low competition were possible to increase my odds of getting traffic to begin with and that brings me to traffic….
Traffic – This is my third most important factor and it is simple really, some search terms have very little or even no people searching for them. You want the highest traffic searching for your keywords.
Commercial Intent – This is only important if you have something to sell. If you do, look for how much other businesses are paying for their ads, if you can get your website ranked on page one of organic search, each click that you get for free is worth what your competion is actually paying for and better still organic search is clicked far more often than ads, get yourself a good SEO consultant to get your website to the front page of the search engines and reap the rewards!
The Keyword Research formular:
Highest relevance + Low Competition + Highest Traffic + Commercial Intent
= Keyword Research Success
